October 6 through 12 is Fire Prevention Week and as a leader in fire restoration, SERVPRO of Mercer and Lawrence Counties is here to help you prevent a fire in your home or business. Read the tips below to learn how you can be ready for whatever happens.

Fire Prevention Tips

  1. Have a Fire Evacuation Plan – sometimes the difference between escaping safely and enduring a tragedy is having a plan a place. Your evacuation plan should be known to everyone in your family or business and practiced twice a year.
  2. Inspect electrical cords – faulty or frayed wires can start a fire. Be sure to check your connections and cables regularly for cracking or damage and replace old wires immediately.
  3. Install and test smoke alarms – every level of your office or home should have an active smoke detector. Be sure to test your alarms regularly

Additional tips and fire safety resources can be found on the National Fire Association’s website here.
