Are you storm ready?

Don't let storms catch you unprepared

Severe weather can strike at any time. From tornadoes, to snowstorms, to heavy rains, there are many ways in which you can be prepared so that a severe storm does not ruin your day.

Be smart about storms!

Purchase a good quality weather radio

  • Weather radios are affordable and can be programmed to only alert you to potential weather dangers
  • See an example and purchase one here

Create an emergency supply kit

  • This could include...
    • Water (one gallon per person per day)
    • Food (non-perishable 3-day supply)
    • Manual can opener
    • Battery operated radio (see above)
    • Flashlight and batteries
    • First aid kit
    • Whistle to signal for help
    • Clothing
    • Dust masks/bandanas
    • Plastic sheeting, garbage bags, and duct tape
    • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
    • Hygiene items
    • Important documents; copies of insurance policies, ID and bank account info
    • Cash
    • Fire extinguisher
    • Matches in a waterproof container

Pay attention to Wireless Emergency Alerts!

WEA are emergency messages that the government allows to be sent through mobile carriers. They will provide you with warnings and alerts regarding dangerous weather or other hazards relevant to your area. This will appear much like a text message, and will likely make a loud alert sound if it is a warning specifically about storms or severe weather.

In any kind of severe weather, SERVPRO of Mercer County wants to help you weather the storm. Take these important storm preparedness steps so that you can stay safe any time the weather takes a turn for the worst.
